Glasscock County ISD is shining bright today! We are incredibly proud to share that our district has earned SUPERIOR ACHIEVEMENT on the First Rating under the state’s financial accountability system.
This accomplishment reflects the dedication, integrity, and hard work of our staff, administration, and school board. In true GCISD fashion, we continue to show that even a small district can set the bar high and operate with excellence in everything we do.
It's a great day to be a Bearkat!

Your Custom Metal Sign orders are ready for pick up! If you placed an order with Student Council earlier this semester, swing by the courtyard south of the cafeteria tomorrow during the Thanksgiving lunch to grab your items. Thank you for your support!

Mrs. Hoelscher, Mrs. Fryar, and Mrs. Christina, took juniors and senior volunteers to the Midland Soup Kitchen yesterday. They delivered all the non-perishable items donated this month to the Student Council food drive from all the students and community. The ministry is so grateful for the generosity & the giving hearts of Glasscock County.
Students also served lunch to community members who take advantage of this daily meal site in Midland that has been functioning now for 40 years!

It’s been a full and exciting week at GC Elementary!
Our 5th graders spent yesterday at the Petroleum Museum, enriching their learning on sedimentary rock and fossil fuel formation at the STEAM Education Center, followed by a guided museum tour. Their time in the STEAM Center gave them a glimpse of the hands-on possibilities coming soon to our own STEAM Center at GC! A huge thank-you to ExxonMobil for sponsoring this incredible experience.
If you’ve taught kids, have kids, or know a kid, you’ve probably heard “six-seven” more times than you can count — so 3rd-5th decided to embrace it and celebrate the 67th day of school with themed activities on Monday. Most students gave the day a big thumbs-up… with only 6 or 7 giving it a mid-review.
What a great week of learning, exploring, and having fun together at GC!

Sandbar Smokehouse BBQ Team Makes Sizzling Statement in Midland!
This past weekend, our Sandbar Smokehouse School BBQ Team fired up the pits at the Champions BBQ Alliance–sanctioned “Cooking for Calboy” event in Midland — and against 36 teams of seasoned adult pitmasters, our students delivered their best finish yet!
Competing shoulder-to-shoulder with veteran champions, these young pitmasters proved that passion, precision, and teamwork can hang with the very best. Their results were nothing short of impressive:
🍗 KidsQ Chicken Wings • 7th Place — Reagan Hillger • 5th Place — Aubrey Halfmann • 4th Place — Sophie Sullivan
🏆 OVERALL TEAM: 5th PLACE! And get this — only 6.3 points separated the top five teams overall!
In just a few short months, Sandbar Smokehouse has climbed the BBQ ladder at lightning speed, earning the respect of seasoned champions and showing what young talent can achieve with dedication and heart.
We couldn’t be prouder of these students, their grit, and their smokin’ teamwork. The future of BBQ is bright
