HB 1481: “No Phones in School” Law – What It Means for GCISD
Starting in the 2025–2026 school year, House Bill 1481 requires all Texas public and charter schools to prohibit student use of personal communication devices during the school day.
✅ GCISD is already ahead of the curve – we’ve long had a no-phone policy during class time.
🔄 What’s changing?
Under the new law, students will no longer be allowed to use phones during passing periods or at lunch.
📦 All devices must be powered off and stored in backpacks throughout the school day.
🎯 Why it matters:
Reduces distractions
Supports student mental health
Improves classroom engagement
Creates stronger peer connections
Thank you for partnering with us to build a more focused and connected learning environment!

The Board has officially approved salary increases for the 2025–2026 school year as part of our ongoing commitment to recognize and appreciate the amazing work our staff does every day. In addition to these raises, GCISD is proud to be a Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) district, giving high-performing teachers the opportunity to earn extra performance-based pay beyond their base salary. We truly value the dedication, expertise, and heart our staff brings to our district. These increases and benefits reflect how strongly we believe that investing in our staff is one of the best ways to help our students succeed.

It may have been our first year, but we took FCCLA Nationals by storm! Not a single person you spoke to here could believe a new chapter could have the amazing amount of success we did just getting to Nationals much less everything we achieved here! Wow! Not only did our students compete and win- they fully engaged in pin trading and spoke to students from nearly every state in the country, learned tons of facts about those states (and a territory or two), they honed their negotiation skills and are pretty sure they could do real estate deals now 🤣. We had an incredible number of students make it up on the big stage as finalists and are bringing home some hardware. The 🔥 fire is definitely lit to improve and engage in even more opportunities this year! Huge thank you to our parents, volunteers, chaperones, donors and sponsors, and our school for supporting this exciting journey.
