“Once you’re my student, you’re always my student” rings true, but most of us have our students in class a year or two and then watch from afar as they move along to the next class, and the next. Most of them still smile at us if they meet us in the hallway, some stop for a hug and a few make a point to come see us, but the majority aren’t a part of our daily lives after a year or so. However, there are some of us here that interact with our students daily from the time they’re in pre-k to seniors. Mrs. McKinnon has watched our kids grow up, as they enter the cafeteria day after day and has loved them year after year. We’ve always known she goes above and beyond, whether it’s planning and executing the perfect Thanksgiving meal or ensuring our hospitality rooms are the envy of surrounding schools, but I saw first hand how important each and everyone of these kids are to her, as she showered our seniors with congratulatory chocolate strawberries against a beautifully decorated backdrop. She didn’t have to do that, but she did, because she loves them. As an employee, I’m grateful to work with people who care about our students and as a mom, I’m beyond blessed, knowing my kids have been loved and cared for by so many like Mrs. McKinnon from pre-k to graduation and beyond.
