Advanced Placement
Overview
Advanced Placement is a rigorous academic program. Each AP course is modeled on a comparable college class and college faculty play a vital role in making certain Advanced Placement courses align with college level students. The courses culminate with college level assessments that are developed and scored by college and university faculty.
Program Goals
Advanced Placement courses and the exams are designed to help earn college credit for its students. Based on their score, students can earn anywhere from 3 to 12 hours of college credit. Students should check with the college or university of their choice to see what their policy is on AP scored and earned credit.
Program Evaluation
AP courses are audited annually by the College Board to check for rigor and depth. Also, the AP exams are a way to asses how teaching and learning is happening in AP courses.
