Concurrent/Dual Credit Courses

GCHS students are able to gain college credit during their High School career through dual credit classes. When taking dual credit, students get both high school and college credit for the same course. Our students gain college credit through Howard College in Big Spring.

Students must apply and be admitted to Howard College. Students must satisfy the Texas Success Initiative prior to enrolling in course work. When a student does not meet the TSI, other assessments can be take to gain admission.

For most dual credit courses the instructor is the college teacher at Howard College. That teacher accepts and evaluates the work, gives grades, and takes attendance. In some instances, the GCHS teachers that meet the Howard College criteria for employment can teach concurrent courses. We currently have Physics and Agriculture teachers on staff that teach dual credit courses.

Students must pass their dual credit courses in order to receive both High School and College credit. The grading criteria established by Howard College will be used to determine grade point and credit earned. All courses at GCHS are taken online with the exception of those two offered at our campus.
